Help Build a Better Navy…and World

Overview

The Officers of the Navy Reserve Civil Engineer Corps (CEC) are responsible for taking on the hundreds of annual civil engineering projects throughout the U.S. and around the world, and getting these projects off the ground.

Description

As a Civil Engineer in the Navy Reserve, you will manage the planning, construction and maintenance of new Navy and Marine Corps facilities. Head up renovations of existing structures. Lead rebuilding efforts as part of Navy humanitarian relief missions. Put an engineering background to work constructing anything from airports to roads, hospitals to harbors, parks to schools. Lead the elite Seabee construction unit, while helping to oversee the billions of dollars spent yearly to support the Navy’s high-tech force of ships, aircraft, equipment and personnel.

To become a Civil Engineer Corps Officer, you must have a degree from an accredited four-year U.S. college or university. However, for those with a High School Diploma or equivalent, you may qualify for a similar career in Construction and Building.

Specifics

As a Civil Engineer Corps Officer, you may work in any or all of the following areas:

Construction Battalion: The legendary Seabees. Support Naval and Marine activities in the field overseas. Command 400 to 600 Enlisted workers in constructing airfields, bridges, ports or buildings. The Seabee’s motto, “We Build, We Fight,” sums it up.

Construction/Contract Management: Be the primary contact between the Navy and contractors. Solicit and manage bids. Supervise construction and troubleshoot issues.

Public Works: Supervise hundreds of craftsmen and maintain shore facilities. Oversee construction and repair. Manage budgets and approve public works plans.

Training

You will attend the two-week Direct Commission Officer Developmental School (ODS) in Newport, RI, for your first Annual Training. The next Annual Training will be the 2-week CEC orientation Basic Course at the Civil Engineer Corps Officer School (CECOS) in Port Hueneme, CA. Additional training includes Construction Battalion Operations, Field Exercises and Government Contracting.

Serving as a CEC Officer will sharpen your leadership abilities and project management skills as never before. Our ranks are made up of the most focused individuals looking to support their country as they increase their scope of opportunity.
