Making waves around the world.
Fighting the Global War on Terrorism was Eric’s primary reason for joining the Navy Reserve. His second - the opportunity to surf the waters of the world. So far, Eric has been deployed and ridden the waves in South America, the Caribbean, Hawaii and Japan. “I was on Reserve orders up in Iceland and my first question was, ‘Does anyone surf here?’”
Eric’s thirst for adventure has made him a successful Naval Flight Officer and an avid surfer. Both demand a lot from him. Precision. Concentration. And dedication. “If you sit there in the same spot and just wait, you’ll catch a wave once in a while, but you gotta paddle around and find it. You gotta position yourself. You gotta go to the wave. It’s the same thing with the Reserve. If you’re proactive and you work hard, you’ll find good opportunities, do well, and have fun,” says Eric.
“The Reserve gives you a great opportunity to say, ‘You know what? I can still be part of the military but, that trip I wanted to do or that place I wanted to go or that project I wanted to accomplish or that job I wanted to take, you can do that now. It’s a great opportunity and an honor and privilege.’”
Whether on land, at sea, or in the air, Eric is able to seize whatever life has to offer him thanks to the Navy Reserve.
